Paolo Scaroni, president of AC Milan, expressed confidence that local authorities will approve tomorrow the sale of the San Siro stadium land to the clubs Milan and Inter, stressing that any failure in this matter would be “a defeat for everyone,” including the clubs, the city of Milan, Italy, and Italian football.

San Siro stadium hosts tonight’s Serie A match between Milan and Napoli in front of a full crowd, while tomorrow’s decisive vote by the local council is expected regarding permission to sell the land surrounding the stadium to the two clubs to build a new stadium and demolish the current Giuseppe Meazza stadium.

Scaroni said in statements to DAZN Italia: “Tomorrow will be – I hope – the end of a long journey that started many years ago. I believe the local authorities will make a wise decision in favor of the two clubs and all Italian football. This is a crucial phase, and I hope it will be realized tomorrow.”

The Milan president explained that some opponents of the vote raise issues related to transparency in the ownership of the two clubs, with Milan managed by the RedBird fund owned by Gerry Cardinale, while Inter is managed by the Oak Tree fund.

Scaroni concluded: “We are confident because any problems would be a defeat for everyone. I don’t see anyone willing to take responsibility for causing such great harm.”
