MP Hamad Al-Duwai revealed his intention to submit a parliamentary proposal to stop the game “Roblox” in the Kingdom of Bahrain, confirming that he receives daily reports about risks associated with the game.
Al-Duwai explained that he is coordinating with relevant authorities to take necessary measures, confirming his direction towards banning the game locally to preserve children’s digital safety and reduce associated cyber risks.
“Roblox” is an online game available on Android, iOS, PC, and Xbox One, designed for children and teenagers aged 8-18, where they create and customize their digital avatars, unleash their imagination, and create their own games. It uses a Lua system to create in-game effects. Players explore 3D worlds, engage in activities like exploration, placing materials, resource gathering, mini-games, and combat.
Players can customize virtual characters with different items, create their own clothes, and collect and trade objects, especially limited edition collectibles. They can also use Roblox Studio, an integrated building system to create places with bricks of various colors and shapes, plus plugins and building tools. Players can browse the Roblox library to find free models and scripts.
“Roblox” is one of the most popular electronic games among children and teenagers, but education experts warn of multiple risks, notably exposure to cyberbullying or exploitation by strangers via open chat, and access to inappropriate content such as violent or sexual games created by some users.
Various countries have witnessed exploitation cases linked to the game, including reports in the UK of children being targeted by adults through the platform, and official warnings in Australia after discovering unsafe conversations between minors and strangers.
Some countries have taken strict measures against “Roblox” due to growing concerns about its risks to minors. The UAE banned the game in 2018 after complaints from parents about children being exposed to inappropriate content and electronic exploitation. It is also banned in Oman and Qatar.
Jordan imposed a similar ban on “Roblox” alongside other games like “PUBG” and “Fortnite,” considering them negatively affecting youth behavior.
In South Korea, “Roblox” faced official investigations over concerns about weak data protection and the spread of inappropriate content for children.
Cybersecurity experts at Kaspersky warned of increasing digital risks threatening children online through disguised threats in one of the most popular gaming platforms among children and teenagers, “Roblox.”
Experts pointed out that the game’s wide popularity makes it an attractive target for cybercriminals who exploit fake files related to it to spread malware. More than 1.6 million cyberattack attempts disguised as files related to the game were recorded in 2024 alone.
According to Kaspersky’s report, 1,612,921 cyberattack attempts were recorded via fake files named “Roblox,” with August having the highest number of attacks (179,286), followed by September (160,116), then October (151,638), highlighting the severity of these increasing threats, especially given the large number of children using this platform.
