Sharjah: Dhamia Faleh
Ukrainian heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk (38 years old) sparked a storm of controversy after appearing in a video dancing, contradicting his claim of needing rest before setting a date to defend his title against Joseph Parker.
The International Boxing Federation requested Usyk to update his health status report following his claim of suffering from back pain and needing therapy sessions, after the video circulated showing him spinning, waving his arms, and dancing with local pop singer Dorofeeva at a public event.
The Boxing Federation threatened Usyk with sanctions if he failed to comply with the decision to update his health status. The federation’s chairman, Luis Batista Salas, wrote: “The committee cannot allow postponement or concealment of the date without a convincing justification.”
Earlier in August, Usyk’s report indicated he needed a full rest period followed by physical therapy, and his camp requested 90 days during which negotiations for a new fight would be completely halted. The international federation was prepared to approve the request.
