The Dubai Police General Headquarters arrested a gang of three individuals who attempted to smuggle 89,760 Captagon pills hidden inside clothing buttons, weighing 18.931 kilograms and valued at approximately 4.488 million dirhams, before they could be smuggled out of the country. This was done in cooperation with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Dubai Police stated that the “Toxic Buttons” operation is part of their ongoing efforts to combat and thwart the plans of drug dealers, promoters, and smugglers aiming to spread their poisons among youth. The operation succeeded after implementing a tight security plan to track the suspects’ movements in coordination with other police agencies. The gang was found hiding the drugs in an apartment in Dubai and another emirate.
Details of the “Toxic Buttons” Operation
The operation began after receiving reliable information about a gang inside the country consisting of three people, two of whom are Arab nationals and one Asian, preparing to receive a quantity of drugs and psychotropic substances to smuggle to a neighboring country under the orders of their leader abroad. A specialized team was immediately formed, and all legal procedures were taken, including obtaining a search and arrest warrant from the Dubai Public Prosecution to search the suspects, their vehicle, and residences.
Dubai Police placed the suspects under close surveillance in preparation for their arrest. The suspects repeatedly changed the hiding place of the drugs, moving them from one location to another and treating them as merchandise, but all their movements were monitored by the narcotics control officers around the clock.
A New Method
The narcotics officers set the zero hour to arrest the suspects. After close monitoring, the suspects were raided. Upon searching their residence, the gang was confident that the police could not detect the drugs hidden inside clothing buttons, thinking it was a professional method to conceal drugs that would be difficult to discover, believing the clothes were ordinary and would be exported or sold. However, they were surprised by the expertise and skill of the narcotics officers who uncovered the drugs carefully concealed inside the buttons.
Capabilities
Dubai Police stated that, thanks to God and then the expertise and skill of the narcotics officers who possess high capabilities and resources in dealing with such gangs, uncovering their criminal plans, dismantling the leaders and gangs, handling new concealment methods, and sending a message to anyone who dares to harm the community or disrupt its security and stability, delivering criminals to justice to receive their deserved punishment.
