On the occasion of Pink October, the month dedicated to cancer awareness, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection launched the national campaign for awareness, prevention, and early detection of breast and cervical cancers. The campaign runs from October 1 to 31, 2025, under the slogan “Your health is your capital; prevention and early detection are your guarantee.”
The campaign aims to raise awareness among the general population, especially the targeted age groups, about the importance of preventing breast and cervical cancers through vaccinating girls aged 11 against the human papillomavirus (HPV), as well as early detection for women within the targeted age groups.
A structured and integrated system for early cancer detection was established within the framework of the first national plan for cancer prevention and control 2010-2019, followed by the second plan 2020-2029. This has contributed to improving healthcare services in screening, diagnosis, and treatment by creating reference reproductive health centers and regional oncology centers, and establishing two centers of excellence in gynecological and breast oncology at the University Hospital Center in Rabat and the University Hospital Center Ibn Rochd in Casablanca. Additionally, mobile mammography units have been deployed to bring screening and early detection services closer to populations living in remote areas, along with organizational measures to improve access to vaccination, screening, diagnosis, and treatment services, supported by various institutional, associative, and civil society actors.
It is worth noting that breast and cervical cancers rank first and fourth respectively among the types of cancers recorded in women in Morocco, representing 39.1% and 6.5% respectively, according to the latest report from the National Cancer Registry in the Casablanca-Settat region for the period 2018-2021.
