Hamas Political Bureau member Hossam Badran stated that the movement’s negotiating delegation stayed several days in Sharm El-Sheikh during the talks to end the war on Gaza, emphasizing that Hamas “did what it had to do in this regard and there are no arrangements for our presence during the signing of the agreement.”
He added in statements to the program “Al-Soura” broadcast on Al-Nahar that reconciliation with Fatah is “one of the most important issues that require a real solution in the Palestinian situation,” stressing that the continuation of the ceasefire and what follows “undoubtedly requires Palestinian national consensus.”
Badran confirmed Hamas’s keenness to achieve national unity, saying: “I am in almost daily contact with various factions, including our brothers in Fatah.”
He pointed out consultations on all details related to the response mechanism to US President Trump’s initiative, adding: “I do not reveal a secret that we submitted an official request and invitation for a meeting between us and Fatah on September 1, but unfortunately, we did not receive a response to this invitation.”
He stressed that “what was not achieved before, we are in greater need of it in the coming phase.”
He welcomed the Egyptian move to bring factions together to discuss the next steps, emphasizing that the subsequent steps must “have a purely Palestinian character to manage our internal affairs away from any other interventions.”
He expressed confidence in the Egyptian role, “which understands the complexities of the Palestinian scene and will be effective in bringing all components together” to follow up on this file.
