He said, “We are not just introducing AI into our systems; we are re-engineering systems to be AI-based. This plan is a strategic transformation towards a fully integrated digital model based on AI technologies that autonomously respond to challenges and opportunities. We have moved beyond service development to redefining the entire way of working. We have an ambitious vision aligned with Dubai’s AI plan. Today, we work with the spirit and tools of the future, reflecting Dubai’s approach to becoming the smartest city globally.”
Five Pillars
The 2030 AI strategy at Dubai Customs is based on five main pillars aimed at developing and improving customs systems and procedures and achieving excellence and leadership in government services. The strategy also seeks to contribute to Dubai’s economic agenda goals by generating new economic value from digital transformation towards the new economy, accelerating commercial operations, and facilitating trade. This aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to establish Dubai as the capital of the digital economy, a key player in the global digital ecosystem, and a strategic trade hub.
The new strategy’s pillars include an outstanding customer experience through AI-powered solutions providing smooth and efficient services across all service channels and programs; enhanced digital capabilities by building a digital infrastructure and advanced AI capabilities to support next-generation customs operations and improve decision-making processes; enabling decision-making and risk management by leveraging AI to enhance risk assessment, future forecasting, and strategic decision-making capabilities to increase operational efficiency; improving resource allocation by applying smart AI-supported resource management systems to maximize operational efficiency and economic feasibility across all customs departments; and fostering an AI innovation culture by providing an environment that encourages innovation, continuous learning, and adoption of the latest AI technologies throughout the entire department.
Main Areas
The strategy covers six main areas supported by 32 innovative initiatives, with results measured through 24 key performance indicators. These areas include the intelligent AI foundation, AI-supported channels, predictive risk assessment, smart risk handling, smart inspection, and smart post-transaction auditing.
