French star Kylian Mbappé led Real Madrid to a 3-0 victory over host Real Oviedo in the second round of the Spanish La Liga. Mbappé scored the opening goal in the 37th minute and added a second in the 83rd minute. Brazilian Vinícius Júnior sealed the win with a third goal in the third minute of added time. This win marked Real Madrid’s second consecutive victory after a 1-0 win against Osasuna in the first round, bringing their total to six points and placing them among the top three alongside Villarreal and Barcelona. On the other hand, Oviedo suffered their second consecutive defeat after losing 2-0 to Villarreal in the opening round. Real Madrid started with a front three of Brazilian Rodrygo on the left, Argentine Franco Mastantuono on the right, and Frenchman Mbappé as striker.
Oviedo relied on strong home support in their first top-flight match at home after a long absence. Veteran Venezuelan striker Salomón Rondón was isolated upfront, tightly marked by Real Madrid defenders Antonio Rüdiger and Din Hausein. The first half saw limited attempts from Real Madrid as Oviedo packed their defense and successfully limited the threat. Mbappé broke the deadlock with a ground shot after receiving a pass from Arda Güler, beating the Oviedo goalkeeper. Real Madrid maintained the lead until halftime. In the second half, Real Madrid pressed hard with several attempts on Oviedo’s goal, with goalkeeper Aaron Scandel performing well. Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso made two substitutions in the 62nd minute, bringing on Vinícius for Rodrygo and Ibrahim Díaz for Mastantuono. Shortly after, Vinícius made a deep run and assisted Mbappé, who scored the second goal.
In added time, Vinícius scored the third goal with a ground shot from the left side, sealing an important win for Real Madrid.
