During the official visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt regarding cooperation in the field of urban planning. It was signed on behalf of Bahrain by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and on behalf of Egypt by His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Kouchouk, Egyptian Minister of Finance.

On this occasion, Eng. Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Khayyat, CEO of the Urban Planning and Development Authority, affirmed that the Bahrain-Egypt relations represent an exemplary model of cooperation and strategic partnership. He pointed out the importance of continuing to strengthen this partnership in various fields, especially in urban development and planning, which contributes to opening wide and promising horizons for cooperation between the two brotherly countries. He also emphasized that this cooperation represents an important strategic step towards developing cities and urban communities in both countries, benefiting the two peoples and laying the foundation for a more prosperous future.

The memorandum aims to establish a joint council concerned with urban planning between the two countries to enhance academic, scientific, research, and training cooperation in the fields of urban planning and development, supporting the exchange of expertise and knowledge among specialists. This contributes to supporting the strategic visions of both brotherly countries and accelerates the achievement of sustainable development goals.
