Following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, a team from the Joint Operations Command and the UAE Search and Rescue team departed the country today heading to Afghanistan to commence search and rescue operations and support those affected by the earthquake that struck the eastern regions of the country.

Upon arrival, the team will immediately begin field assessment operations in coordination with local authorities to enhance the efficiency of search and rescue efforts, expand the scope of response, provide logistical and relief support to the affected areas, and work to save as many lives as possible and rescue survivors trapped under the rubble.

The UAE Search and Rescue team’s efforts coincide with the country’s humanitarian arm, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, dispatching urgent humanitarian aid including essential relief materials, medical supplies, and shelter tents to support the affected, injured, and wounded, and to alleviate the disaster’s impact on the afflicted families.

This comes as part of the UAE’s immediate relief response to those affected by natural disasters and various crises, stemming from its international responsibilities and humanitarian mission, and its constant keenness to quickly extend a helping hand to assist the afflicted and needy worldwide.
