A new report has revealed the arrest of global star Noel Clarke, the lead actor in the Doctor Who series, in London after losing his libel case against The Guardian last month. According to Deadline, the star of Doctor Who and Kidulthood was arrested at his family home in Kensington. The reason for his arrest was not initially disclosed, but Clarke was questioned during detention and then released.

The Guardian also reported Clarke’s arrest, claiming investigators searched his property. Police were seen leaving the house with boxes said to contain a laptop and documents.

Reports stated that the Metropolitan Police began their investigation on September 1 of this year, led by the Central Specialist Crime Command.

The Guardian contacted the Metropolitan Police for comment.

Clarke filed a libel lawsuit against The Guardian in 2023 after the newspaper published a 2021 investigation detailing alleged sexual assault and bullying, with over 20 women accusing him of sexual misconduct.

Consequently, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) suspended his membership and the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema award shortly after the allegations surfaced. At that time, Clarke issued a statement strongly denying any misconduct or sexual wrongdoing, describing the allegations as “false.”

The libel case Clarke filed was dismissed on August 22, with Judge Stein stating that The Guardian “succeeded in defending its stories on the basis of truth and publication in the public interest.”

According to the ruling, Stein said, “I accepted some of Mr. Clarke’s evidence, but generally found him not to be a reliable witness.”

Earlier this year, a judge rejected Clarke’s request to strike out The Guardian’s defense in the legal battle between the two parties. In 2022, Clarke filed a libel suit against BAFTA but later dropped the case.
