Following US President Donald Trump’s announcement on Monday of his plan to end the war on the Gaza Strip and Hamas stating that it is seriously considering it, Gaza residents are pinning their hopes on a glimmer of hope despite skepticism.

Palestinian displaced persons doubted the seriousness of this plan “because they have lost hope in all previous plans that ended in failure.”

With great sadness and sorrow, a displaced Palestinian woman expressed her hope for the plan’s success this time. She told Al Arabiya/Al Hadath: “We hope the ceasefire will actually happen.. We are tired, displaced, in pain, our children are tired, and we are sick.”

Meanwhile, another person appeared completely pessimistic, pointing out that nothing changes on the ground, saying: “I am not hopeful.. They have announced ceasefires many times and nothing happened; it was all empty talk.”

Trump’s Plan

The mentioned plan includes 20 points, the most prominent being that “the Palestinian sector will be disarmed and governed by an administrative committee managing Gaza, composed of Palestinian technocrats and international experts, with no role for Hamas.”

This committee will be supervised and overseen by a new international transitional body called the “Peace Committee,” led and chaired by Trump, with other members and heads of states to be announced later, including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

This body will set the framework and manage the funding for Gaza’s reconstruction until the Palestinian Authority completes its reform program, as outlined in various proposals including Trump’s 2020 peace plan and the Saudi-French proposal, enabling it to regain control over Gaza safely and effectively.

Hunger and Displacement

Thousands of displaced people in Gaza face a tragic fate on the roadsides, with many choosing death in their cities over displacement, amid the absence of safe shelters and financial incapacity.

According to Israeli estimates, about 780,000 residents of Gaza City recently fled southward within the Strip to escape Israeli military operations.
