Turkey accused the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) of not adhering to the agreement signed with Damascus regarding their integration into state institutions. Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara received Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Damascus yesterday. Sources from the Turkish Ministry of Defense said that Fidan’s unannounced visit focused on Turkey’s national security concerns in northeastern Syria, noting that “maintaining Syria’s territorial unity and integrity has become more important than ever.” The sources also mentioned that the issue of Israeli aggressive practices and Tel Aviv’s rhetoric were discussed between Fidan and Al-Shara. A Turkish military official confirmed in a press briefing that Ankara will confront attempts to create a corridor linking As-Suwayda with areas controlled by the SDF. He added that “SDF attacks in the outskirts of Manbij and Aleppo against Syrian government forces harm Syria’s political unity and territorial integrity.”
