US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he might warn his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that Ukraine could receive Tomahawk missiles if Moscow does not end its invasion.

Trump is considering supplying Kyiv through his European allies with long-range cruise missiles after his failed summit with Putin in Alaska to reach a peace agreement.

Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One when asked if he would raise the issue personally with Putin, “Maybe I’ll talk to him. Maybe I’ll say: Look, if there’s no settlement in this war, I’ll send them Tomahawk missiles.”

Trump added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested Tomahawk missiles during a phone call on Saturday while discussing new arms supplies to Kyiv.

On his way to Israel and Egypt to push for a long-term peace agreement in Gaza, Trump said that “the Tomahawk is a new offensive step.”

He questioned, “Do they want Tomahawk missiles launched at them? I don’t think so.”

Earlier, Putin warned against supplying Kyiv with Tomahawk missiles, saying it would be a major escalation and would affect relations between Washington and Moscow.

Trump previously acknowledged that the Ukraine war, now in its fourth year, is the toughest among several conflicts he pledged to resolve before taking office in January.
