Amid increasing international praise for the security stability Egypt has witnessed in recent years, U.S. President Donald Trump, during his visit to Cairo today on the sidelines of the summit signing the Gaza ceasefire plan, stated that “Egypt has a low crime rate unlike America, because they have a security leadership that knows what it is doing.”
Trump’s remarks highlighted the pivotal role played by the Egyptian Ministry of Interior in maintaining public security and combating crime in all its forms.
Ongoing Security Campaigns
The Ministry of Interior, under the directives of Major General Mahmoud Tawfiq, Minister of Interior, continues to implement extensive security campaigns nationwide targeting lawbreakers, unlicensed weapons, drug trafficking, and reducing criminal offenses.
These campaigns have succeeded in dismantling many criminal hotspots and seizing thousands of cases, contributing to enhancing the citizens’ sense of safety.
Technology Serving Security
In recent years, the ministry has relied on digital transformation and the development of the criminal information system, enabling security agencies to quickly detect crimes and track perpetrators in record time.
The smart camera system has also been developed in main squares and vital facilities, significantly contributing to uncovering details of many cases.
Updating Police Infrastructure
The Ministry of Interior has witnessed a leap in training and qualifying police cadres according to the latest global systems in criminal investigation, counter-terrorism, and cybercrime.
The fleet of vehicles and security patrols has also been updated and equipped with the latest technologies to monitor the security situation moment by moment.
Community and Preventive Work
The role of the Interior Ministry has not been limited to security confrontation only but extended to activating preventive and awareness roles through community initiatives such as “We Are All One,” aiming to ease burdens on citizens and enhance trust between citizens and police officers.
Specialized departments also work on spreading legal awareness among youth to reduce behavioral deviations that may lead to crime.
Tangible Results
These efforts have resulted in a noticeable decline in criminal crime rates compared to previous years, as confirmed by security agencies’ reports and international institutions concerned with public security.
Egypt has become classified as one of the most stable countries in the region in terms of security, thanks to a comprehensive strategic vision by the Ministry of Interior based on firmness and deterrence alongside transparency and mutual respect with citizens.
