Iraq intends to deport hundreds of foreign female prisoners and their children, most of whom are affiliated with the Islamic State organization. The plan excludes women sentenced to death and includes prisoners mostly from Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Russia. The Iraqi Ministry of Justice is currently forming a committee to develop a deportation plan for foreign and Arab female inmates and their accompanying children. Currently, Iraqi prisons hold about 625 foreign women with 60 children, mainly linked to ISIS. The plan aims to reduce overcrowding in prisons and improve infrastructure. Deportations require bilateral agreements or memoranda of understanding between Iraq and the respective countries, and the process may take a long time.
