German club Bayer Leverkusen has decided to sack its new Dutch coach Erik ten Hag just weeks after taking charge.
Ten Hag, who was dismissed from Manchester United mid-last season, took over Leverkusen in July, replacing Spaniard Xabi Alonso who left to coach Real Madrid.
Leverkusen said in a brief official statement: “The club announces its immediate separation from coach Erik ten Hag, and the assistant coaching staff will temporarily take over the team’s training.”
So far, the reason for Ten Hag’s dismissal before the end of his contract in summer 2027 has not been clarified.
Before the club’s announcement, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, specialized in transfer news, said that Ten Hag was sacked by Bayer Leverkusen, noting that the club’s management made the decision this morning and the coach was informed of the sudden dismissal.
It is worth noting that the team collected only one point from the first two rounds of the German Bundesliga this season, losing to Hoffenheim and drawing with Werder Bremen.
