Palestinian-American businessman Bashara Bahbah, unofficial Trump mediator between Hamas and the US administration, revealed details of a Washington meeting held days ago regarding ending the war in Gaza.
He said during an interview on the program “Outside the Box,” aired on Al Arabiya TV on Wednesday evening, that the meeting lasted six hours, during which a single final offer was decided to be put on the table to release all prisoners in exchange for ending the war.
He added, “I communicated with Hamas regarding this matter, and they showed some hesitation because they did not know if the offer was official or unofficial.”
He pointed out that Hamas became convinced the offer was “official” after a post by US President Donald Trump, saying “Hamas’s reaction was immediate, agreeing to a comprehensive deal to hand over all hostages and release a number of Palestinian prisoners, while simultaneously ending the war.”
When asked about the implementation of the deal and whether the exchange would coincide with a ceasefire and withdrawal, he confirmed that “those details are unknown.”
He continued, “No one knows if the release of hostages and prisoners will happen before the war ends, before Israel withdraws from the Gaza Strip, or if the process will coincide with a ceasefire and withdrawal within a limited timeframe estimated in weeks.”
Shortly before, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on Hamas’s announcement of readiness to make a deal to release all detainees in exchange for stopping the war and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
According to a statement from his office on Wednesday evening, Netanyahu said Hamas’s announcement was “just another manipulation,” describing it as “another attempt with nothing new.”
He claimed the war in Gaza could end immediately under the conditions set by the Israeli security and political “kitchen cabinet.”
He explained that the conditions include: releasing all hostages, disarming Hamas, disarming the Gaza Strip, Israeli security control over it, and forming a civilian alternative government that does not threaten Israel.
Hamas said it is still waiting for Israel’s response to the proposal presented by mediators to the movement on August 18, which Hamas and the Palestinian resistance accepted.
In a statement via its official Telegram channel on Wednesday evening, Hamas reiterated its readiness to proceed with a comprehensive deal under which all enemy prisoners held by the resistance would be released in exchange for an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, within an agreement that ends the war on Gaza, the full withdrawal of occupation forces from the entire Strip, opening crossings to bring in all sector needs, and starting reconstruction.
The movement also reaffirmed its approval to form an independent national technocratic administration to manage all affairs of the Gaza Strip and take responsibility immediately in all fields.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump called on Hamas to release all Israeli detainees.
He wrote on his official page on the Truth Social platform on Wednesday evening: “Hamas must immediately return all twenty hostages, not 2 or 5 or 7, and things will change quickly and end.”
