Frenkie de Jong, midfielder for Barcelona’s first football team, responded to rumors about a dispute between him and his teammate Gavi.
Recently, speculation spread about a cooling relationship between Frenkie de Jong and Gavi due to their girlfriends, with reports claiming the situation escalated to a boycott between them.
Frenkie said in an interview with Mundo Deportivo: “Gavi has been my friend since I was 12 years old. I have known him since my time at Real Betis, but since joining La Masia, he has become like a brother to me.”
He added: “We have shared a lot. People always speculate and that won’t change, but he is still my friend. Our relationship is good as usual and I have nothing to say about it.”
It is worth noting that Gavi and Frenkie de Jong progressed through the youth ranks at Real Betis before joining Barcelona and moving to La Masia, and their relationship was very strong.
Frenkie de Jong chose to stay at Barcelona under coach Hans Flick and rejected an offer from English club Chelsea despite the great appeal of playing in the Premier League and the high salary.
