British authorities mistakenly released a record number of prisoners between March 2024 and March 2025, according to the British newspaper “The Sun” on Sunday.
According to the newspaper, 262 people were mistakenly released in one year, an increase of 128% compared to the period between 2023 and 2024.
Many prisoners were released under a parole program, while others were freed due to bureaucratic errors. Following the publication of these statistics, the Ministry of Justice announced the formation of a special committee to address the situation.
In August, “The Daily Mail” reported that about 26,500 prisoners were released early between September 2024 and March 2025 to ease pressure on the UK prison system.
