Beirut – For more than 15 years, volunteering and humanitarian work in Lebanon have been a fundamental pillar in facing successive political and economic crises.

Hundreds of young volunteers from various regions dedicate their time and efforts to serving the community through initiatives and development projects that address daily needs, ranging from health, education, and food support to empowerment and training programs.

More than 150 volunteers annually contribute to implementing over 1,250 volunteering opportunities, according to Heba Marquez, director of the Lebanese Sustainable Development Generation Association, emphasizing that the spirit of collective giving can make a real difference on the ground.

She adds, “Volunteers’ roles were not limited to routine initiatives; they played an active role in responding to major crises, such as the Beirut Port explosion in 2020 and the severe economic crisis, where they engaged in precise field surveys and provided urgent support to the most affected families.”

This volunteering movement also places special importance on building youth capacities through training workshops and skill development courses, encouraging them to participate in idea formulation, project planning, and implementation, believing that investing in their energies is the true gateway to positive change.

In concluding her message, Marquez extends an open invitation to all stakeholders to support civil and voluntary work and encourage innovative field initiatives as a way to strengthen community resilience and improve people’s quality of life amid the difficult conditions Lebanon is going through.
