The Arab representative, Morocco’s U-20 national team, continued its impressive performance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup by defeating the USA 3-1 in the quarterfinal match held at the El Teniente Stadium in Rancagua, Chile.
Morocco’s goals were scored by Fouad Zahwani (31′), Joshua Winder (own goal 66′), and Jassim Yassin (87′), while the USA’s sole goal came from Cole Campbell via a penalty kick (45+6′).
The Moroccan adventure in the U-20 World Cup did not stop after proving superiority over the United States in Rancagua. The match saw Moroccan dominance, with Saad Haddad launching a cross from the left side towards Othman Maama, whose initial attempt was saved by the goalkeeper. However, Maama skillfully passed the ball to Fouad Zahwani, who easily scored the opening goal for Morocco (31′).
The Americans pressed for an equalizer and earned a golden opportunity before halftime when Nolan Norris was fouled inside the box. After video review, the referee awarded a penalty, which Cole Campbell successfully converted (45+6′).
In the second half, Morocco’s stars continued to shine. From a long throw by Zahwani into the American penalty area, the ball reached Yasser Zabidi who shot towards the goal; defender Joshua Winder deflected the ball into his own net, giving Morocco a second goal (66′). Jassim Yassin sealed the victory by scoring the third goal after receiving a pass from substitute Ilyas Boumsoudi (87′), ending the match 3-1 in favor of Morocco.
With this result, Morocco advances to the semifinals for the first time in 20 years.
