Foreign media outlets have revealed that Australian star Nicole Kidman has separated from her husband, singer Keith Urban, after nearly twenty years of marriage.
The relationship between Kidman, an Oscar winner, and Urban, a four-time Grammy winner, began in June 2006 and culminated in a marriage that produced two daughters: Sunday Rose (17 years old) and Faith Margaret (14 years old).
Although no official reason for the separation has been announced, sources told TMZ that the couple had been living apart since the summer, while reports indicate that Kidman did not want the separation. A source confirmed this news to the BBC.
The relationship of Kidman and Urban, both from Australia, experienced many moments of joy and challenge over nearly two decades. They supported each other in their careers and appeared together at many artistic events, from award ceremonies to Hollywood premieres.
They also faced difficult times, notably when Urban entered a rehabilitation center a few months after their wedding to treat his addiction to drugs and alcohol. They later stated that this difficult experience strengthened their relationship.
In a 2010 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Urban said, “I think everything happened for a reason, to bring us closer at that moment,” adding, “Nick taught me a lot and influenced my life in ways I never expected. This is the best place I’ve ever been.”
Kidman and Urban were last seen together in June during the FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville, Tennessee. They also appeared in May at the Academy of Country Music Awards, where Urban was honored with the “ACM Triple Crown” award. They appeared harmonious then, exchanging kisses and holding hands.
It is worth noting that Nicole Kidman was previously married to actor Tom Cruise for over 10 years before they separated in 2001, during which they had two children.
