Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s forward, criticized a popular fan account on X for “disrespecting” the club’s former striking duo: Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez, after a post mocking their departure at the end of last season.

Salah objected to a post on X showing a black-and-white image of the departing duo alongside the newly arrived pair: Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, with the caption “Tell us any bigger reinforcement in football history.”

Defending his former teammates who helped Liverpool win the English Premier League title for the 20th time, Salah wrote on X, “What about celebrating great signings without disrespecting the Premier League champions?”

The “Anfield Edition” account, followed by over half a million users, quickly apologized for the comment.

The account posted a photo of Salah sitting on a throne, saying, “We did not intend to disrespect the players but to highlight the amazing transfers this summer, but we apologize.”

This social media dispute came after a hot summer transfer window that saw Colombian winger Díaz move to Bayern Munich for €75 million ($87.80 million), while Núñez joined Saudi club Al Hilal for €53 million, according to media reports.

Liverpool spent generously to bring in replacements, signing Wirtz for £116 million ($156.70 million) with additional perks before breaking the British transfer record to acquire Isak for £125 million.

While Díaz significantly contributed to Liverpool’s title win by scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in 36 matches, Núñez struggled to make an impact, scoring only five goals in 30 matches.

Despite remaining popular at Anfield for his outstanding performances, Núñez faced harsh ridicule on social media for missed chances.
