The UAE national football team kicked off their campaign in the qualifiers for the AFC U-23 Asian Cup with a historic result, scoring a goal festival against their counterpart Guam by winning 13-0 during the match held today, Wednesday, at Al Nahyan Stadium in Al Wahda Club, Abu Dhabi, as part of Group 9 matches. This is the biggest victory in the history of the Olympic team.
The UAE players shone impressively from the early minutes, leading to the collapse of the Guam team, which appeared absent from the field.
The Olympic team will face Hong Kong next Saturday in the second round. These qualifiers are held across 11 groups, with 11 group leaders and the best four second-placed teams qualifying.
Under the leadership of Uruguayan coach Marcelo Broli, the team aims to secure a qualification ticket for the finals to be held in Saudi Arabia next January.
The Olympic team ended the first half leading 9-0, with goals by Junior Ndaiye (7, 30), Yousuf Ahmed Saeed with a header (15), Maid Al-Kas (17, 43, 76), Mohamed Juma Al Mansouri (34, 48), Ahmed Malallah (37), Mansour Al Menhali (44, 49), substitute player Dhari Fahad (62), and Issa Khalfan added the 13th goal in the 88th minute.
The referee showed a red card to Guam player Eduardo Pedemonte in the 13th minute after a violent tackle on player Matar Zael, forcing Guam to continue with ten players.
The match was one-sided throughout both halves, dominated completely by the UAE Olympic team with no presence from Guam.
