Lisbon, October 13 / BNA / Voters in Portugal cast their ballots today, Sunday, in local elections, with special attention on the race for the mayoralty of Lisbon, following last month’s electric train accident that killed 16 people, including 11 tourists.
The current mayor, Carlos Moedas, who leads a center-right coalition, is competing against Alexandra Leitão, a law professor and representative of the center-left, for a four-year term.
Moedas refused to take any responsibility for the accident and also refused to resign, sparking widespread anger across the country.
