Kuwait Oil Company announced the discovery of a new offshore natural gas field named “Jizza,” considered one of the largest gas discoveries in the country’s history, with estimated reserves of about one trillion cubic feet of natural gas and more than 120 million barrels of condensates, according to a statement reported by Reuters and the Kuwait News Agency.
The company, affiliated with the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, stated that initial tests of the well (Jizza-1) showed exceptional production exceeding 29 million cubic feet per day of gas and more than 5,000 barrels per day of condensates, noting that the initial area of the field is about 40 square kilometers.
Kuwait’s Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Tareq Suleiman Al-Roumi, confirmed that this discovery represents a “strategic step within Kuwait’s vision to enhance energy security and increase production,” adding that efforts are underway to accelerate the development of the discovered offshore fields and integrate them into the production system to meet the growing demand for electricity and fuel.
The company explained that the environmental characteristics of the field are unique, featuring low carbon dioxide gas content and free of hydrogen sulfide gas and associated water, making it a rare technical and environmental discovery in the region.
This is the third discovery in the Kuwaiti maritime area since exploration began in 2022, following the discoveries of “Al-Nokhatha” in 2024 and “Al-Jaleea” in January 2025, reinforcing the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s plans to increase local gas production and reduce dependence on imports to meet peak summer demand.
