British artist Lola Young collapsed mid-song and was carried off stage by her team on Saturday evening during the “All Things Go” music festival in New York, just one day after her team canceled her Friday night show in South London due to a “sensitive matter.”
Young delivered a strong vocal performance but appeared embarrassed and emotional during her show at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, performing four songs from her new album: “Spiders,” “F — Everyone,” “Dealer,” and “Walk All Over You,” before falling backwards during the next song.
Midway through her 2023 single “Conceited,” Young stopped to communicate with the keyboard player, but the message apparently did not get through before she suddenly collapsed.
Her team, companions, and security rushed to assist, carrying Young off stage after she remained on the ground for about 30-45 seconds.
Young reassured her audience via Instagram Stories, saying: “To everyone who saw my show at All Things Go today, I am okay now. Thank you all for your support.”
The moment stunned the audience into silence and surprise, as attendees applauded while Young was carried off, and hyperpop music played throughout the stadium after her exit.
Later that night, fellow festival artist Doechii led the crowd in a tribute to Young, saying: “She is a very talented artist and was not well tonight. I’m glad you were there to support her and stand by her. Let’s wish her the best, okay? Say: ‘We love you, Lola.’ I want her to hear that and feel it.”
Her manager Nick Shimaneski posted on Instagram Friday announcing Young’s last-minute withdrawal from her scheduled performance at the “We Can Survive” concert at the Prudential Center, citing a “sensitive matter.” He wrote: “Lola is very open about her mental health, and there are days when my team and I have to take protective measures to ensure her safety. She is a wonderful person who always cares about her audience, career, and performances. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Before collapsing on Saturday, Young spoke to her audience at the start of the show about her decision to return to the stage: “I woke up today and decided to come here. I wanted to be, I wanted to perform, and I didn’t want to give in to my sadness. Sometimes life gives you lemons, and you have to make lemonade… I am very grateful to everyone who came tonight.”
