Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein reaffirmed Iraq’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s struggle to determine their destiny and establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry stated that Minister Hussein led Iraq’s delegation at the emergency ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held today in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to discuss the serious developments in the occupied Palestinian territories. In his speech, the Iraqi minister emphasized Iraq’s strong stance alongside the Palestinian people against the genocide they face due to the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, stressing that these violations constitute a blatant breach of international law and human rights and represent a fully constituted crime requiring urgent and decisive international action.

He pointed out that ongoing expansionist plans, especially the construction of more illegal settlements, undermine efforts to de-escalate tensions, affirming that the solution lies in unifying Arab, Islamic, and international positions to confront these practices. The minister called for immediate and comprehensive action to ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people without delay, stressing adherence to international legal references and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2334 of 2016. He stated, “Iraq renews its steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s struggle to determine their destiny and establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital,” confirming Baghdad’s readiness to contribute to efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip and alleviate civilian suffering.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister concluded by affirming that Iraq will continue its diligent efforts in coordination with Arab, Islamic countries and the international community to end escalation and protect the rights of the Palestinian people.
