Dr. Amr Kandil, Deputy Minister of Health and Population, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), including representatives from Libya, Algeria, and Mauritania, alongside experts from the center. This took place on the sidelines of a regional workshop held in Egypt from September 1 to 4, 2025, titled “Enhancing Skills to Improve Public Health in Africa.”
Dr. Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that the Deputy Minister greeted the delegations, emphasizing the ministry’s pride in Egypt’s role as a bridge for health cooperation and the transfer of its pioneering expertise to African countries. Kandil stressed that health security knows no borders and highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange to build strong health systems that protect the continent’s peoples.
Abdel-Ghaffar noted that the African Union’s selection of Egypt as the regional “Northern Hub” for the Africa CDC reflects great confidence in Egypt’s capabilities and its pivotal role in enhancing health integration across Africa. The workshop featured an exchange of expertise, with Egypt showcasing its successful experience in eliminating hepatitis C and B viruses, developing infectious disease surveillance systems, infection prevention, and improving primary healthcare services.
The achievements of Egypt were also highlighted, including receiving the “Gold Certification” from the World Health Organization for eliminating hepatitis C in 2023, the certification of children free from hepatitis B in 2024, and the inclusion of Egypt’s infection control experience in the WHO global guidance manual.
Participating countries shared their expertise in these fields, expressing appreciation for Egypt’s leading role and emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation to achieve health security in Africa.
