Dr. Yousef Al-Shawarbah, Chairman of the Greater Amman Municipality Committee, visited the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) on Thursday, where he met with Shadi Al-Majali, Chairman of ASEZA’s Board of Commissioners, in the presence of Dr. Moatasem Abdullah Handawi, Commissioner of Infrastructure and Urban Affairs.

During the meeting, Al-Shawarbah reviewed ASEZA’s work plan to develop the national economy, preserve the environment, promote sustainable development, and provide highly efficient infrastructure.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation and joint work between the Municipality and ASEZA in all areas of municipal work, especially in environment, waste management, information technology, and smart cities.

Al-Shawarbah toured the Aqaba Digital Hub (ADH), an advanced digital infrastructure project aimed at boosting digital transformation in the region, where he learned about its operations and the services it provides to Jordan and other Arab countries.

He also visited the Aqaba Development Corporation and met with its CEO Hussein Al-Safadi to discuss joint work opportunities between the Municipality and the company, especially in investment environment fields.

Al-Shawarbah reviewed the company’s projects and plans aimed at unlocking Aqaba’s economic potential by attracting private sector investments and transforming Aqaba into a gateway for business, entertainment, tourism, logistics, and industry.

He also observed the 3D printing experience in Aqaba, part of a Jordanian project launched in June 2025 to restore and protect coral reefs. This project is part of the “Blue Economy” initiatives announced by His Majesty King Abdullah II, aiming to use innovative technology to save the damaged coral reefs in the Gulf of Aqaba and provide them with new infrastructure.

During the visit, Al-Shawarbah also toured the solid waste landfill in Aqaba and reviewed the site’s operations and services.

He was accompanied by Sultan Al-Kharabsheh, Executive Director of Information Technology, Engineer Lubna Al-Huneiti, Executive Director of Smart Cities, and Engineer Basem Al-Hawamdeh, Director of Environmental Studies Department.
