The Palestinian Authority on Monday welcomed the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump to stop the war in the Gaza Strip.
The Authority said in a statement carried by the official Palestinian news agency (WAFA), “The State of Palestine welcomes the sincere and diligent efforts of President Donald Trump to end the war on Gaza.”
The Palestinian Authority expressed confidence in Trump’s ability “to find a path towards peace.” It also emphasized “the importance of partnership with the United States in achieving peace in the region.”
The Palestinian Authority confirmed its commitment to work with the United States and its partners to reach a comprehensive agreement that includes “paving the way for a just peace based on the two-state solution.”
Earlier Monday, the White House released Trump’s plan to end the fighting in Gaza. The U.S. President announced at a press conference that the plan was approved by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu but still requires Hamas’ approval.
The plan stipulates that the U.S. President will chair a committee overseeing the transitional phase in Gaza without forcing any residents to leave the area.
The plan calls for an “immediate” end to the war ongoing since October 7, 2023, and a phased withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza. It also includes the release of all prisoners.
Trump will chair a “Peace Committee” that includes former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. The Palestinian sector will be managed by a “non-political technocratic” Palestinian committee excluding Hamas.
According to other provisions in the plan, the United States will work with “Arab and international partners to form an international force to establish stability that will deploy immediately in Gaza.” This force will train and support “approved Palestinian police forces” in consultation with Jordan and Egypt.
