The Iranian judiciary’s Mizan news agency reported that authorities executed a man named Bahman Choobi Asl on Monday, stating that the accused was one of Israel’s most important spies in Iran.

Tehran, which has been engaged in a shadow war with Israel for decades, has executed many individuals accused of having ties to the Israeli intelligence agency (Mossad) and facilitating its operations in the country, according to the Palestinian Ma’an news agency.

According to Mizan, “The main goal of Mossad in recruiting the accused’s cooperation was to obtain databases of government institutions and penetrate Iranian data centers. Additionally, it sought to achieve other secondary objectives, including exploring the import routes of electronic equipment.”

The Supreme Court rejected the accused’s appeal and upheld the death sentence on charges of corruption on earth, Reuters reported.

The executions of Iranians convicted of spying for Israel have increased significantly this year, with at least 10 sentences carried out in recent months.
