Berlin, September 4 /BNA/ – The German government intends to further reduce its support for global health projects beyond what was previously announced, according to a statement submitted by the Ministry of Finance to the Budget Committee of the Federal Parliament (Bundestag).
The statement indicated that the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria will receive a total amount that is 100 million euros less in the coming years than previously planned.
The data clarified that 370 million euros are still scheduled to be allocated to the fund during the current year, while for the budgets of 2026-2028, only 850 million euros are planned to be allocated as so-called commitment appropriations, instead of the previously planned 950 million euros.
The Budget Committee of the parliament is scheduled to review the budget plans today, Thursday, before their approval in mid-month.
The Green Party strongly criticized these cuts, indicating that it intends to submit a request to the Budget Committee to increase support for the Global Fund by 45 million euros this year, and allocate a total of 1.4 billion euros for the period from 2026 to 2028.
