The Algerian national team’s performance was marred by a lack of focus in front of goal, as despite numerous crossing attempts by the players, most were either wasted or inaccurate.

In the 33rd minute, Mohamed Lamine Amoura ended the missed chances by capitalizing on a cross from Rami Bensebaini, scoring a header to put Algeria ahead.

Botswana’s counterattacks posed significant danger, with one strong shot hitting the post.

However, despite Algeria’s pressure to extend their lead, the visiting team managed to equalize through Thibogo Kopelang, who took advantage of an unmarked free-kick cross to score in the 43rd minute.

At the start of the second half, the enthusiastic crowd atmosphere energized the match, increasing Algeria’s desire to score again.

With missed opportunities piling up, Algeria’s coach Vladimir Petkovic brought in experienced players, substituting Riyad Mahrez and Houssem Aouar for Youcef Belaïli and Baghdad Bounedjah in the 66th minute.

Just five minutes later, Bounedjah scored the go-ahead goal for Algeria by following up on a cross in front of the goal to make it 2-1.

Algeria continued to press until the end to increase their lead, with Bounedjah scoring his second goal and Algeria’s third in the 6th minute of added time, after a solo effort and a powerful shot into the net.

The Algerian team raised their tally to 18 points at the top of the group, six points ahead of their closest rival Mozambique, who will face Uganda on Friday.

Algeria will face Guinea in the next round, while Botswana will play Mozambique on September 8.
