The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the incursion of hundreds of extremist settlers, including the extremist minister in the Israeli occupation government Itamar Ben-Gvir, into the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, violating its sanctity.
In a statement issued today, Wednesday, the organization also denounced the occupation’s closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron, considering it an extension of Israel’s repeated violations of the sanctity of holy sites and freedom of worship, and a blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions and relevant United Nations resolutions.
The organization reaffirmed that the entire Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, covering an area of 144 dunams, is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims only, and that Israel, the occupying power, has no sovereignty over the city of Jerusalem and its holy sites. It called on the international community to take necessary measures to preserve the historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
