The workshop organized today by the Syrian Ministry of Education focused on discussing practical and effective ways to develop vocational education by updating the provisions of Law No. 38 of 2021 related to vocational secondary education, in order to meet current requirements, improve graduate quality, and keep pace with the evolving labor market needs.

Participants also discussed the possibility of opening specialized training centers for non-students, the mechanism for paying wages to teachers, students, and supervisors involved in vocational secondary school projects, and the necessity of establishing a flexible contract system between vocational secondary schools and the business sector to allow more flexibility and practical application, enhancing the partnership between education and the labor market.

The workshop was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Youssef Annan, the ministry’s legal advisor, the director of vocational education, the director of legal affairs, several deputy directors of education for vocational education affairs, and heads of vocational education departments in the provinces.

Law No. 38 of 2021 aims to organize the vocational secondary education pathway in Syria, provide a workforce that meets labor market needs across various professions, and ensure student training in real work environments by establishing training centers and production workshops specific to vocational secondary schools, with the goal of raising graduates’ scientific and practical levels to contribute to supporting production processes and achieving sustainable development.
