The Directorate of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Homs seized an unlicensed industrial facility in the industrial city of Hseya, containing 150 tons of counterfeit preservatives, as part of its ongoing campaign to combat commercial fraud and ensure the safety of food products circulating in the markets.
Wael Barghol, Director of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Homs, told SANA’s correspondent that the facility was forging the data sheets of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate to extend their shelf life by an additional year, noting that about 50 tons of these materials had already been marketed in the local market.
He added that the directorate immediately began contacting factories in other provinces that might have received quantities of these materials, and directed supply patrols in Homs to monitor industrial facilities and confiscate any counterfeit quantities found in warehouses.
This operation is part of a series of intensive inspection measures carried out by the directorate in Homs, aiming to reduce food manipulation and ensure compliance with health and technical standards at all stages of production and distribution.
