Brussels, 31 August 2025 (WAL) – The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, confirmed that the decisions to refuse and cancel entry visas for members of the Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization before their participation in the United Nations General Assembly meetings scheduled for next September in New York contradict the headquarters agreements signed between the UN and the host country.
The European Union, in a statement published by the EU External Action Service on its official website on Saturday, called on the United States to reconsider the decision.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had cancelled entry visas for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and 80 other Palestinian Authority officials ahead of the upcoming high-level annual UN General Assembly meetings next month in New York, according to the US State Department on Friday.
