English Liverpool coach Arne Slot revealed the reason for excluding Italian star Federico Chiesa from the match against Turkish Galatasaray, scheduled for today (Tuesday), as part of the second round of the UEFA Champions League.
Last Friday, Liverpool announced registering Chiesa in the European squad instead of Giovanni Leonie, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear injury, but Chiesa’s joy was short-lived as his first European appearance this season was postponed due to injury.
Slot said in statements highlighted by the club’s website: “Chiesa felt mild pain during the last match against Crystal Palace and was unable to complete training afterward; therefore, we decided not to risk playing him, especially since we will face a tough match against Chelsea in a few days.”
Liverpool’s squad for the Galatasaray match includes: Alisson, Gomez, Endo, Van Dijk, Konate, Kyrgyz, Vertz, Szoboszlai, Isaac, McAlister, Salah, Bradley, Jones, Gakpo, Ekitike, Mamaradashvili, Robertson, Woodman, Frimpong, Gravenberch, Ngoumouha.
