Saudi club Al-Ahli secured a valuable draw in Qatar after a 2-2 tie with hosts Al-Duhail on Monday evening at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha, during the second round of the West Group matches in the 2025-2026 AFC Champions League Elite season.

Al-Duhail opened the scoring through their Qatari international winger Edmilson Junior in the 25th minute, before Al-Ahli responded with two consecutive goals by Brazilian Matheus Gonçalves and Algerian Riyad Mahrez in the 42nd and 45+1 minutes respectively. Early in the second half, Polish player Krzysztof Piątek equalized for the Qatari team in the 48th minute.

With this draw, Al-Ahli is now just one match away from equaling the record for the longest unbeaten streak in AFC Champions League history, held by South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai (formerly Ulsan HD), with 21 consecutive matches without defeat.

If the Saudi team avoids defeat against Al-Gharafa in the next round, they will match the historic Asian record, having already equaled the local record held by Al-Hilal of 20 consecutive unbeaten matches in the tournament.

Al-Ahli’s last defeat in the AFC Champions League dates back to the 2021 edition, when they lost 5-2 to Iran’s Esteghlal during the group stage. Since then, the team has played 20 matches in the competition, achieving 15 wins and 5 draws without any loss.

In the previous edition, where Al-Ahli won the title, they won all their matches except for a single 2-2 draw with Esteghlal in the sixth group stage round. Their second draw in the current edition was the same 2-2 result against Al-Duhail.

Al-Ahli raised their points tally to 4 after winning their opening match against Uzbekistan’s Nasaf Karshi, while Al-Duhail earned their first point in the group after a previous loss to Al-Hilal.
