Legendary Alan Shearer, former Newcastle and England star, believes that Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s top scorer, is no longer the player he used to be, pointing out that the Egyptian winger has lost his confidence in recent weeks.
Salah, Liverpool’s third all-time top scorer, faced criticism from the fans after the recent loss to Crystal Palace in the English Premier League, where he was rated the lowest, according to “SofaScore,” a football statistics website.
Shearer, the Premier League’s all-time top scorer, told “The Rest Is Football” blog: “I don’t know if it’s because he played on the right wing far from the goal or something else, but certainly Salah looks like he has lost confidence and is not the player we knew before.”
The former Newcastle star added: “I think the situation will change in the future, but coach Arne Slot and his technical staff need to find the best way to utilize Salah’s true abilities.”
Salah ranked fourth in the Ballon d’Or award for the best player in the world behind Ousmane Dembélé, Lamine Yamal, and Vitinha. However, he played one of his worst matches with Liverpool last Saturday, and the “Liverpool Echo” newspaper said he lost the basics of football in the first half of the Crystal Palace match, which saw Liverpool suffer their first Premier League defeat of the current season.
