A group of prominent economists, including ten Nobel laureates, sent a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanding an end to the forced starvation of Gaza and his plans for full occupation. The letter, shared by economist Daron Acemoglu on social media platform X, warns of the spreading famine in Gaza and criticizes the Israeli and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) for its deadly practices in aid distribution. The economists condemn the proposed “humanitarian city” plan that would confine hundreds of thousands of Gaza residents to a restricted area, depriving them of freedom and dignity. They also warn that if Israel proceeds with its occupation plans, European governments may impose sanctions, credit rating agencies might downgrade Israel’s sovereign debt, and skilled workers could emigrate. The letter comes after another child died from starvation, raising the death toll due to malnutrition to 240, including 107 children.
