Authorities in Scotland forced an African tribe calling itself the “Kingdom of Kubala” to leave its camp in a forest near Jedburgh following an immediate court eviction order.
The British newspaper The Guardian reported that police arrested the tribe’s leader, King Atheini known as “Kofi Ofeh” (36 years old), his Zimbabwean wife Jan Gasho who calls herself “Queen Nandi,” and the American maid Kaura Taylor, nicknamed “Asnat” (21 years old).
According to the newspaper, the ambitious lawyer Ms. Taylor was reported missing from Dallas in May 2025, then her family spotted her living with the “tribe” in Scotland.
The group broadcast the eviction live on their TikTok account Thursday morning, showing a man and a woman being removed from the forest.
The British paper stated that the tribe was notified last month about the eviction due to being on private land, where David Palmer, the landowner where the tribe camped, complained that the presence was disturbing and took legal steps to remove the trio.
The tribe then moved its camp to an adjacent piece of land owned by the Scottish Borders Council.
On Wednesday, Sheriff Peter Patterson issued an immediate eviction order for the tribe, and no members appeared in court.
The three members of the so-called “kingdom” declared they are reclaiming lands stolen from their ancestors 400 years ago.
Ofeh, a former opera singer, claims to be king of a lost tribe descended from King David mentioned in the Bible, saying: “The Kingdom of Kubala has suffered trials and tribulations at the hands of authorities who neither understand nor tolerate us.”
He added: “The Kingdom of Kubala cannot be destroyed; we derive help from the Creator of the heavens and the earth… Until then, no one can destroy the Kingdom of Kubala… We follow the laws of the Creator… Everything belongs to its Creator… We do not believe the land belongs to any authority… The land belongs to the Father.”
