Max Eberl, member of the board of directors for Bayern Munich football club’s sports affairs, said on Monday that the club can envision renewing striker Harry Kane’s contract beyond 2027.
Eberl said, before Bayern’s trip to Cyprus to prepare for their Champions League match against Pavoi on Tuesday: “If you have a good mix, you can definitely keep older players longer, especially those with incredible quality.”
He added: “Harry doesn’t look old at all; it’s as if he has fallen into a fountain of youth, considering how active he is on the pitch. So the idea of renewing his contract is completely possible for us.”
The 32-year-old English captain joined Bayern in 2023 on a four-year deal. Last week, he became the fastest player to reach 100 goals for the club, scoring that number in 104 matches.
Eberl said: “Harry is an exceptional player for us,” describing him as one of the “shining stars” of the team.
Recent reports mentioned a clause allowing Kane’s contract to be terminated in 2026 and the possibility of his return to the English Premier League. However, Kane confirmed that he and his family are very happy in Munich, noting that renewal talks “may happen.”
Eberl said: “He emphasized that he wanted to come to Bayern, and said that playing here and winning titles with us is simply wonderful.”
He explained: “We want to continue working with him for a long time, so we will discuss the next steps with him comfortably.”
Eberl said renewal negotiations with French international Dayot Upamecano are more complicated, amid reports linking him to interest from Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain. The defender’s contract with Bayern Munich ends at the close of this season.
Eberl said: “I’m not surprised by the many clubs interested in Dayot. We are also interested in extending his contract, and this will take a very long time.”
He confirmed: “We are trying to convince him with Bayern Munich’s project. We want to keep him.”
