After multiple postponements, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced early Friday morning that the government approved the prisoner release and ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

Netanyahu’s office stated that the government officially endorsed U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the war in Gaza and agreed on the main points for releasing all prisoners.

Meanwhile, the broadcasting authority reported that ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich voted against the agreement.

With the government’s announcement of approval, the ceasefire went into effect.

The Israeli army bombed Gaza minutes before the government’s announcement.

Netanyahu said, “We are in the midst of a decisive development and have fought to achieve the goals of our war, most importantly the return of all prisoners, and we will achieve that,” adding, “We would not have reached our goal without the exceptional help from Trump and his team.”

200 Military Personnel

Additionally, senior U.S. officials announced Monday that Washington will send a team of 200 American military personnel to the Middle East to “supervise” the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

A senior official told reporters that U.S. Central Command leader Admiral Brad Cooper “will initially have 200 people on the ground. His role will be to supervise, monitor, and ensure no violations occur.”

He added that Egyptian, Qatari, Turkish, and possibly Emirati military officials will be attached to the team.

Meanwhile, a second senior U.S. official revealed that “there is no intention to send any American soldiers to Gaza.”
