Spain has raised its heatwave alert for the thirteenth consecutive day while battling forest fires concentrated in the northwest and west of the country, where the army has been deployed to help extinguish the flames. The regions of Castilla y León, Galicia, Asturias, and Extremadura are among the main fire hotspots. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez participated in a coordination meeting to analyze the developments of the fires. After two firefighting planes loaned by France left, two new Canadair planes arrived at the Matacán airbase in Salamanca, provided by Italy through the European Civil Protection Mechanism. The government continues to fight the fires with all available means amid political debates about fire management. The train line connecting Madrid with Galicia remains suspended, and about ten main roads are still closed.

Rescue teams in Galicia sent warnings to residents in dozens of areas to stay indoors due to advancing fires. Around 3,500 members of the military emergency unit have been deployed to support various regions. The regional official in Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, called for an exceptional response due to extreme weather conditions and increasing fires, requesting more military forces at the disposal of the regions. Extremadura has officially requested reinforcements from the central government, which only intervenes in major disasters, and has called for reactivation of the European Civil Protection Mechanism to provide 100 fire trucks, 10 light helicopters, and 10 water helicopters.
