London – AFP
Liverpool has announced its agreement to sign Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle in a historic deal worth £130 million ($176 million), making it the most expensive transfer in Premier League history, surpassing Enzo Fernandez’s move to Chelsea. Isak, 25, who scored 23 goals last season behind Mohamed Salah, is set to undergo a medical before signing a six-year contract. He had expressed his desire to join Liverpool since the start of the summer.
Donnarumma to Manchester City
Meanwhile, Manchester City has strengthened its squad by signing Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain for €35 million. The decision came after the goalkeeper was excluded from coach Luis Enrique’s plans at the French club, despite his significant role in PSG’s domestic and European titles last season.
Donnarumma’s transfer is linked to the expected departure of Brazilian Ederson to Turkish club Fenerbahçe.
Martínez Nears Manchester United
Manchester United is reportedly considering signing Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa to compensate for the declining performance of Cameroonian goalkeeper Onana. Reports indicate that Villa has agreed to loan Jadon Sancho from Manchester United, while Brazilian player Antony’s contract has been sold to Spanish club Real Betis.
