Adnan Abu Hasna, spokesperson for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), praised Egypt’s decisive role in reaching the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement, emphasizing that Egypt’s firm stance against the displacement of Gaza’s residents and President Sisi’s position had a “great impact” not only in preventing displacement but also in preventing the liquidation of the Palestinian cause and even UNRWA itself.

During a televised statement to “Extra News,” on behalf of UNRWA and the entire United Nations system, he welcomed the ceasefire agreement, stating that six thousand trucks loaded with food supplies sufficient for the population for three months are waiting to enter the Gaza Strip.

He added that the needs go beyond food, stressing the urgent need for “heavy equipment” to remove rubble, in addition to medicines and field hospitals to carry out urgent shelter operations and rehabilitate the agency’s medical facilities.

He confirmed that UNRWA has “ready plans” to resume the educational process, even if it is in tents as it was after the Nakba in 1950.

He explained that the “most important achievement of the agreement lies in preventing the displacement of Gaza Strip residents,” affirming that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is the only one who mentioned UNRWA in his speeches at all international forums.

He praised the great support the agency receives from Egyptian diplomacy and Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who always insists on the necessity of continuing UNRWA’s work.

He confirmed that UNRWA is “the only body that has remained cohesive in the Gaza Strip,” thanks to its 12,000 employees and the expertise and logistical capabilities necessary to carry out all the services entrusted to it.
