Oscar Ruiz, head of the referees committee at the Football Association, held a meeting with the referees of the second round of the Premier League to evaluate their performance in managing the matches and correcting errors.
Oscar Ruiz is keen to meet with referees after each round to analyze performance and assess their level, in addition to training referees weekly.
Meanwhile, South African referee Tom Abongil will officiate the match between Egypt’s national football team and Ethiopia scheduled for 10 PM on September 5, in the seventh round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Assisting Abongil are:
First assistant: Santos Gerson (Angola).
Second assistant: Zakila Sweily (South Africa).
Fourth referee: Eugeni Madloli (South Africa).
The match between Egypt and Ethiopia will be held at Cairo International Stadium.
Egypt’s national team, led by Hossam Hassan, tops its group which includes Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, and Djibouti. The standings are as follows:
1- Egypt – 16 points (6 matches).
2- Burkina Faso – 11 points (6 matches).
5- Guinea-Bissau – 6 points (6 matches).
6- Djibouti – 1 point (6 matches).
Hossam Hassan’s squad includes 20 players from the Egyptian league along with five professionals: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool, England), Omar Marmoush (Manchester City), Mostafa Mohamed (Nantes, France), Hamdi Fathi (Al-Wakrah, Qatar), and Ibrahim Adel (Al Jazira, UAE).
The Egyptian team strengthened its lead in Group A of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup by raising its points to 16 after six rounds without any defeat.
The Pharaohs achieved five wins and one draw, scoring 14 goals and conceding only two, confirming their dominance over their rivals and moving closer to securing a spot in the World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Burkina Faso ranks second with 11 points as Egypt’s closest pursuer, while Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, and Guinea-Bissau follow with close points, and Djibouti is at the bottom with just one point.
